About Undavalli Caves

Carved from a sandstone hill on the Guntur side of the Krishna in the 4th–5th centuries, the Undavalli caves rise in four storeys like a rock-cut palace. The third floor holds a monolithic reclining Vishnu (Anantasayana), and the terrace looks across the river and the Amaravati capital plain.
