Andhra Pradesh has the second-longest coastline in India, and almost none of it is developed. That is the good news: outside Vizag, most beaches are fishing villages with casuarina groves and nobody on them. Here they are from north to south.
Uttarandhra
- Baruva (Srikakulam): the emptiest — casuarina, a river mouth, a temple. For the drive.
- Bheemili (Vizag): calm estuary water, Dutch ruins, the prettiest coast road in the state.
- Rushikonda (Vizag): Blue Flag certified, lifeguards, water sports. The one beach where swimming is safe.
- RK Beach (Vizag): the promenade, the submarine, the food carts. Not for swimming.
- Yarada (Vizag): a hidden cove behind Dolphin's Nose. For a quiet morning.
Godavari
- Uppada (Kakinada): fishing beach plus Jamdani weavers.
- Antarvedi (Konaseema): where the Godavari meets the sea, with a lighthouse and a temple.
- Perupalem (West Godavari): the delta towns' weekend beach.
Krishna–Guntur and south
- Manginapudi (Machilipatnam): black sand, shallow water, a beach park. Closest to Vijayawada.
- Suryalanka (Bapatla): wide, shallow, with a resort — the family beach for Guntur and Vijayawada.
- Kothapatnam (Ongole): simple and uncrowded.
- Mypadu (Nellore): resort cottages and a long clean shore.
Safety
The Bay of Bengal has strong currents and steep drop-offs on most Andhra beaches. Swim only where lifeguards are present (Rushikonda), avoid the sea during the monsoon and cyclone warnings (October–December), and never swim at RK Beach or Yarada.
