About Amaravathi Mahastupa & Dhyana Buddha
Amaravathi town on the Krishna was Dhanyakataka, the Satavahana capital, and its Mahachaitya — begun around the 2nd century BCE — was one of the largest and most richly carved stupas in India. The ASI museum holds its marble reliefs; across the road, the 125-foot Dhyana Buddha statue and park face the river. The Amareswara Shiva temple, a Pancharama, stands on the bank.
