About Dowleswaram Barrage

The barrage across the Godavari at Dowleswaram, first built by Sir Arthur Cotton in 1852 and rebuilt in 1982, feeds the canals that made the Godavari delta India's rice bowl. A museum at the site tells Cotton's story; the river view from the bund is broad and calm.
