Konaseema is the triangle of land between the Gautami and Vasishta branches of the Godavari — canals, coconut groves, paddy and villages that still empty for Sankranti. It has houseboats, a river-mouth temple, a Pancharama shrine and the country's best paper sweets, and it is only an hour from Rajahmundry.
Base yourself
Dindi, on the Vasishta branch near Razole, has APTDC's Coconut Country Resort and several private river resorts that run houseboats and canoe rides. Amalapuram, the district headquarters, is the alternative with simpler hotels and better access to Draksharamam and Ainavilli.
A weekend plan
- Saturday: Rajahmundry → Kadiyam nurseries → Ryali (Jaganmohini Kesava temple) → Atreyapuram for pootharekulu → Ainavilli Vinayaka → Dindi by evening; sunset canoe ride
- Sunday: Antarvedi sangamam and lighthouse (35 km) → ferry across to Sakhinetipalli → Draksharamam Bhimeswara temple → back to Rajahmundry or Kakinada
Eat
Konaseema's coconut shows up in everything; the fish is from the river. In July–September ask for pulasa (hilsa) — expensive and worth it once. Pootharekulu from Atreyapuram travel well as gifts.
Sankranti
If you can, come on 13–15 January: Prabhala Theertham at Jaggannatota, bullock-cart races and every village lit for Bhogi. Book stays a month ahead.
