Most engineering seats in the state's 300-odd colleges are filled through AP EAPCET (Engineering, Agriculture and Pharmacy Common Entrance Test), conducted each May by a JNTU on behalf of APSCHE. The national institutes — IIT Tirupati, NIT Andhra Pradesh, IIIT Sri City — fill through JEE Main and JEE Advanced instead.
Timeline
- February–March: notification and online application
- May: exam (computer-based, in shifts)
- June: results and rank
- July–August: web counselling — certificate verification, option entry, seat allotment in two or three rounds
- August: classes begin; a final spot-admission round fills leftover seats
How ranks map to colleges
State universities' constituent colleges (Andhra University, JNTUK, JNTUA, SVU) and the top private and deemed institutions fill first; a rank under a few thousand is needed for CSE at these. Deemed universities (KL, GITAM, Vignan, VIT-AP, SRM-AP) run their own admissions alongside EAPCET. Fee reimbursement for eligible students applies to convener-quota seats; verify current rules on the Jnanabhumi portal.
Alternatives
- JEE Main → NIT Andhra Pradesh, IIIT Sri City; JEE Advanced → IIT Tirupati
- RGUKT (IIIT Nuzvid, Srikakulam, Ongole, RK Valley): six-year integrated B.Tech after Class 10, for rural toppers
- AP ECET: lateral entry to second year for diploma holders
- Management quota: a share of seats in private colleges, at higher fees
